AbstractThe balance of the public irrigable transformation throughout XXth century is the following one: 316,000 hectares transformed by means of the Law of 1911, 992,000 hectares by means of the Law of 1949 (later
included in the Law of the Reforme and Agrarian Development of 1973) and 95,000 hectares by means of initiative of the CCAA.
To these numbers it would be necessary to add the 695,000 hectares transformed by private initiative into irrigated land by means of public aids, which represents an elevated percentage of a total of almost 1.300.000 hectares transformed by the private initiative. Few countries can present/display a profit and loss statement like this one, which reflects the importance that the economic policy and the Spanish agrarian policy have granted historically to the irrigable policy.
