Abstract

This interview of José Carles Genoves, ISIIMM national coordinator Spain, took place in November 2005 during the first ISIIMM exchange seminar Morocco-Spain at Valencia, Spain. The second exchange will take place in Marrakech.

Translation english :

"I think that this four day meeting with the Moroccan team
has been very interesting. We've achieved a real
comunication not only between two different cultures
but also between different kinds of people with their own
professional languages : academics, technicians,
Spanish and Moroccan engineers, farmers and irrigation
managers. In spite of these different languages - scientific, technical and practical - I think authentic communication has been achieved.

And we've been able to discern common aspects. Evidently,
we have a long common history. We've presented
some of our institutions whos origins date from the muslim
period in Spain. We've presented, from the north,
the types of irrigation organisations that we have in Spain,
not only public but also powerful private organisations that
manage a great part of irrigation in our territory.

Good contact has been made and common and non-common
problems have been found. Definitely, a good exchange
has taken place to explain local water management in Spain
to Morocco and we are already wishing to visit Marrakech,
with our farmers, so that the Moroccan collegues can share
with us their own experiences.

I would say that these mixed - academic, technical, local
agrarian - bilateral meetings are extremely interesting.
Much more than the horizontal or thematic meetings because
we've been able to identify the main common problems
and debate calmly in a cordial environment, establishing
analogies and differences between both countries."
